After gaining sufficient experience and demonstrating competence in dormouse survey and handling, Rory has been awarded a dormouse survey licence by Natural England. All our full-time Ecologists now hold this licence, which allows hazel dormouse (a protected species) to be surveyed by hand, including handling them in nests, nest tubes and nest boxes.
Other protected species that we hold survey licences for include:

- great crested newt
- white clawed crayfish
- barn owl
